About Flickland

Flickland is a free, browser-based turn-based territory game for 2–3 players, inspired by the Korean folk game ttang-ttameokgi (땅따먹기, “land-grab”). Flick a go-stone, return to your own land, and claim everything inside your trail. It runs entirely in your browser — no account, no install, no download. Play against smart bots, share one device with friends, or connect online with someone across the world.

The folk game it comes from

Ttang-ttameokgi is a traditional Korean folk game children once played in the dirt of yards and alleys — from the same era as the childhood games made famous by Squid Game, such as Red Light Green Light (무궁화꽃이 피었습니다), marbles (구슬치기), and ddakji (딱지치기). It was never shown in the series, but it was another favorite of the same generation. Players flicked a small stone or shard three times: leave your land, come back, and everything inside your trail becomes yours. From the dirt yard to your browser

The physical game needs nothing but flat ground and a stone, which is exactly why it thrived on dirt playgrounds for generations — and exactly why it translates so naturally to a screen. Flickland keeps the two rules that made the original special: the three-flick trail and the one-span extension. On top of them it adds what only a computer can offer: precise trajectory tracking, honest physics with per-surface friction, an opponent that actually thinks a move ahead, and a set of alternate rulesets you could never referee by hand. Nothing about the feel is lost; the tactile pull-and-release of a flick is right there under your finger or cursor. What you can do in Flickland

• Battle smart bots 1v1 or 1v2, at easy, normal, or hard difficulty.
• Play hot-seat (pass-and-play) with 2–3 people on one device.
• Connect online peer-to-peer with a friend (2 players).
• Choose map shapes (square, circle, pentagon, hexagon, random) and ground textures — soil, sand, asphalt, and more, each with different friction that changes how far your stone slides.
• Play game modes: Normal, Time Attack, Item, Target (gwanyeokjeon), Flag Capture, Stronghold, and Maze Time Attack.
• Watch a deterministic replay of your last game.
• Read the game in multiple languages, including Korean, English, and Japanese.

Why we built it

Many of Korea's yard games are being remembered again thanks to shows like Squid Game, but ttang-ttameokgi rarely makes those lists — even though it was every bit as common. It is a game of patience and geometry rather than luck, and that quiet strategy is easy to lose when a tradition is only passed down by memory. Flickland exists to keep it playable: a version anyone can open in a browser, learn in a minute, and share with a friend who has never heard of it. There is no paywall and no sign-up. The game is what we want to preserve, so the game is what you get.

Is Flickland free?

Yes. Every mode, map, and difficulty is free to play, with no account required. The site is supported by ads.

Do I need to install anything?

No. Flickland runs in any modern web browser on desktop or mobile. There is nothing to download and nothing to update.

Can I play against a real person?

Yes, two ways: pass-and-play on a single device for 2–3 players, or an online peer-to-peer match with a friend (2 players). You can also play solo against the bots at three difficulty levels.

What do I actually have to do to win?

Capture the largest share of the board. In a 2-player game you need to control over half the map; in 3-player games the threshold is a little lower since the land is split three ways. See the strategy guide for how to get there.
